# Recording downloads

Recording must have been enabled at creation, and the session must have ended with retained replay frames. Read the replay list to obtain a page ID.

curl -X POST "https://api.tooluse.net/v1/browsers/sessions/$SESSION_ID/recording/downloads" \
 -H "Authorization: Bearer $TOOLUSE_API_KEY" \
 -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
 -d '{"pageId":"REPLACE_WITH_RETAINED_PAGE_ID"}'

The native request creates or reconciles one asynchronous MP4 job for that page. Read
GET /v1/browsers/sessions/{id}/recording/downloads
for jobs and status. Request
GET /v1/browsers/sessions/{id}/recording/downloads/{recordingId}
with
Accept: video/mp4
to stream authenticated completed bytes. A pending job is not a completed recording.

The deployment’s encoder, storage, quota and settlement requirements apply. There is no signed public recording URL. Retained source frames expire after 24 hours; request finalization while they are available.
