# Timeout

Use top-level
timeout
for the maximum session lifetime in seconds. Accepted values are 60 through 21600; the default is 3600. The legacy
timeoutSeconds
alias must agree if both are supplied.

curl -X POST "https://api.tooluse.net/v1/browsers/sessions" \
 -H "Authorization: Bearer $TOOLUSE_API_KEY" \
 -H "Idempotency-Key: tooluse-example-001" \
 -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
 -d '{"timeout":300}'

The timeout is a creation setting, not a heartbeat or an unlimited extension. Read durable session state after disconnects. Use an explicit release to finish early; do not wait for the timeout when the work is already done.

curl -X POST "https://api.tooluse.net/v1/browsers/sessions/$SESSION_ID" \
 -H "Authorization: Bearer $TOOLUSE_API_KEY" \
 -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
 -d '{"status":"REQUEST_RELEASE"}'
